What to Wear & Expect

What to Wear

Think about what to wear as if the outside temps are 10-15 or 20 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than what they really are (depending on the season), because you will warm up as you work out! There won’t be room in the boat to strip layers off, unless they can tie around your waist.

Remember, on the North Coast, there is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing!

Team members must always wear their Coast Guard-Approved PFDs when in the boat or on the dock.

    • Waterproof jacket and rain pants

    • Gloves with grip

    • Multiple layers as needed (remember, you will get warmer)

    • Fabrics that insulate, but wick away sweat and repel water, such as PolarTec or wool. Avoid cotton.

    • Sunglasses

    • Hat

    • Sunblock

    • Sunglasses or hat with brim

What to Bring

Make sure to bring a water bottle. It is important to have water on board the boat to rehydrate!

Youth Paddlers

We currently only take paddlers 14 years old and above out onto the water. Paddlers between 14 and 17 years will need guardian’s signature on the waiver form prior to the first practice.

What to Expect When You Arrive

We have an elaborate carpooling system set up, so be sure you understand how to utilize it. It is essential that you arrive on time at the carpool site so that we all arrive at the boat dock early, stretch out, and load the boat just prior to - and be out on the water for - the whole hour.

Be sure to do the team dryland stretching exercises to prepare for the water workout. Make sure you have your equipment ready and have supported the team by getting the boat ready for launch. We start loading the boat at 10 minutes before the hour.
